Comment: Who misses Pantera? I do. At least, once a day. Not joking. You can hear the influence all over this as well as a few other bands (Beneath the Remains & Avenged Sevenfold). I love the throatiness, the grit. I am kind of relieved they steer clear of wailing solos for the most part (there are a few but they aren’t as integrated as a Dimebag line would be). Its one thing to pay tribute to your influences and its quite another to rip them off. I think this band does well at walking that fine line. Not much that hasn’t been done before, but I love the recipe for this messy stew of MetalCore.
Best Songs: “The Scythe” & “The Blinding Light”

Comment: As a longtime listener, I’m really torn with the current sound of Throwndown. They’ve pretty much dropped all ties to hardcore, and that’s perfectly fine. However, the direction they’ve chosen is not something I would have expected. Deathless is a little too much like Pantera/Godsmack/Lamb of God to be taken fully serious. That said, I find that if I can divorce myself of their roots, this is a really good record. Like I said, completely torn.
Best Songs: “Headed South” , “Black Vatican” & “Burial at Sea”

Comment: I do not hear Pantera in this, sadly. This reminds me of Mastadon and Lamb of God more then anything. As I’ve gotten older, my tatstes in metal have become more and more…..snobbish. I’m not a big fan of the metalcore scene. Most of what I hear from that sub genre is just loud, riff-less guitar, screaming, and anger. This would be a good album to throw in a workout mix once in a while but I do not see myself sitting and listening. I wasn’t overly impressed with this when I gave it a full list, and I had hopes for it. To me, it fell into the same traps as most metalcore acts.
Best Songs: Widowed (mainly for the nice acoustic intro)
