Comment: I had a rather brief relationship with this band back in the 90’s. Loved the guitar work in Where You Been, particularly in “Out There” and “Start Choppin’”. I was hoping that this band would spark some of those old fires, but alas, this is not the case. They were barely catchy before and I think they ran that tank out of gas a long time ago. The instruments aren’t all that special (would it be possible to jam that single, same power chord any more?). The song structures are repetitive and boring. Not for me…anymore.

Comment: Were we listening to the same album? This is a muscular and confident but very melodic album. This is the second album with the reunited original line up and it’s damn near as good as 2007’s Beyond. The songs are slightly more poppy then sludgy as on some of their previous releases. The lyrics are bittersweet and emotional. The guitar is crunchy with some really nice soaring solo’s (see I Don’t Wanna Know). This is better then most of the 90’s stuff they did. Sobriety does have its advantages. I greatly enjoy DJ and find this to be an exceptional album, especially for a band that has been around for 25 years.
Best Songs: Pieces, I Want You To Know, I Don’t Want To Know
